Info: Cuzco (Peru) Cuzco sits high in the clouds at 3430 meters amidst a fantastic landscape of the Andes. The region was an administrative and religious center of the Inca empire and considered by them the capital city of the world. Cuzco boasts a multitude of attractions, such as the cathedral of La CompaƱia, the Plaza de Armas, and the beautifully renovated main square in town. Calle Hatunrumiyoc is also known for the mighty walls of the former palace and the famous 12-cornered stone. The Museum of Pre-Columbian art, which is among the best in Peru, is a must see for visitors. Above the city lies the mighty fortress Saqsaywaman that protected the city with its massive walls at the entrance to the city. Cuzco is the starting point for tours to Machu Picchu, which can be accesse from Cuzco by train or in a multi-day hike along the Inca Trail. Also interesting is a trip to the "Valle Sagrado de los Incas", the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
